About
I’m Head of Open Source Innovation at BT – which means that I’m trying to help BT learn how rich innovation can emerge from open source communities. I run Osmosoft, a team devoted to building open source software, particularly concentrating on the ‘last mile’ of web applications, where the application hits the browser
I also lead the community of users and contributors to TiddlyWiki, the open source JavaScript-based wiki that I created in 2004. TiddlyWiki has the unique ability to operate without any server connection, opening up applications where conventional cloud-based web applications cannot be used for reasons of connectivity, cost, privacy or independence.
I’ve been creating software for a million years; it’s all I’ve ever done since I was expelled from school at 15 and had my first computer book published. I’ve done things as diverse as creating animations with Richard Dawkins for two of his 1980s Horizon documentaries, and raising £4m venture capital investment as CTO of a dotcom in 2000.
